A quinceañera is a traditional celebration of a girl's fifteenth year and marks her transition from childhood to adulthood.
The roots of the tradition go back to both Indigenous American and Spanish cultural traditions and, over time, gained a religious aspect as parents brought their daughters to church to give thanks for her.
The tradition gained popularity in the United States through the 20th century, and, in 2004, the USCCB approved a liturgy for blessing quinceañeras during a Mass of Thanksgiving.Immaculate Heart of Mary offers monthly group quinceañera masses or blessings for our parishioners to celebrate young women turning 15.
Upon completion of the preparation course, families can sign up for one of our monthly quinceañera masses. These masses will be shared with any other girls who sign up for the date.Prior to signing up for a Quinceañera Mass, girls and mothers must complete our preparation program. This will be an 8-10 week program using the Created for God/Creada Para Dios curriculum. Classes will be mostly in English, with bilingual leaders.
This class will be offered in the fall, dates TBD. Check back late summer/early fall to register.Once you have completed the preparation course, contact us at [email protected] to sign up for a mass.
